Real. Powerful. Emotional.

October Breezes tackles some tough subjects faced by teenage girls with raw honesty. Sixteen-year old Skye has trust issues, abandonment issues, and struggles with her self-worth. She has always tried to push people away, convinced they will eventually leave anyway. She has a lot of issues to deal with but tries to cope the best she can, until an act of violence almost destroys her world. Skye must find the strength and courage to pick up the pieces and make the choice to move forward, deciding who to trust as she slowly heals. The story is exceptionally well-written and packs a powerful punch, I was moved to tears as my heart ached for Skye. I think all teenage girls should read this book, and parents as well.

Very very well done, but a little too long in the front

While I admit that the first half of the book moves pretty slow, now that I'm 85% in, I can see that it was necessary to get the character development needed for a novel of this depth. This book is on the serious side, dealing with teen dating, rape and pregnancy and has some hot button issues, but the writing and the realism that the author manages to capture makes it mesmerizing to read. I cannot put it down now that I'm at a critical point in the story.

But therein lies the problem with this novel. It's pretty serious stuff and I really wanted the author to give us more information about the aftermath and healing. I think those elements would have been much more important than the long set up. Yes, we needed that too, but it still could have been trimmed by 1/3 in the front part of this book and still been very well done. It wrapped up entirely too fast for me. I needed more, not too much more, but just enough so I would feel good about how Skye's life turned out.

There were a few grammar/spelling errors, but nothing a good content editor couldn't help with. I dunno. I'm really torn on this one because had it not be for how well the author presented this hard subject matter, I would give it 3 stars, but I'm going to leave it at 4 because this is a TOUGH one to tackle in the YA market and she handled it beautifully. The characters were realistic, compassionate and well-rounded. I just hope she continues to write and maybe makes sure her next book goes through a top notch editor.

I would recommend this to high school students. I think the message is one that is important. HOWEVER, I would urge parents to read this one first to make sure their child can handle the subject matter. Only you know your kid, right?

A YA Masterpiece

October Breezes is written for a YA audience but this is a story so thought-provoking that it makes good reading for their parents as well. Just about every painful adolescent dilemma imaginable -- some routine, others life-altering -- is thrown at Skye Williams. Some she handles well and others she botches. The strength of the story is in how Skye picks up the pieces and who she turns to when life goes badly.

The characters are alive, and, more importantly, realistic. I remember all of them from my high school years and I think most YA readers will recognize them too. One character in particular, somebody who probably won't even be on the poster when October Breezes hits the big screen, resonated with me because he is the kind of quiet hero that really exists but is seldom written about.

Parents who check this book out will be reminded of serious issues that teenagers must deal with. Ultimately, though, it's a book for teens. The complexity of issues presented in such an entertaining and gripping storyline leads me to declare October Breezes to be a YA masterpiece that will stay with the reader long after the last page is turned.

Fascinating!

I have been fascinated with ancient cultures (and possible ancient cultures) since I was a teenager - and I continue to be awed by the archeological findings & ideas presented about civilizations that may have been much more technologically advanced than we've given them credit for...

If you have similar interests, "Edgar Cayce's Atlantis & Lemuria" will be of great interest to you. It recounts Edgar Cayce's readings about the sunken lands of Atlantis & Lemuria, and shows how stories that closely match these readings have been handed down over millenia in various cultures - as well as how recent archeological finds have also closely matched the information given during Cayce's readings.

Plato wrote of Atlantis thousands of years ago, and even though we recognize him for being a person who consistently pursued the truth, his writings on Altantis is one of the few things our society discounts as fancy - doesn't that seem odd?

I feel this is a great book, especially for followers of Edgar Cayce. I don't understand why some other reviewers said that this book somehow corrects what Edgar Cayce said. To me it is in complete agreement with what Cayce said, even to the point of devoting an entire chapter to people who were identified in the Cayce readings as having lived in Atlantis. They had names like 'Aa-rr-ll-uu' and 'Sululon'.

Scientific evidence does not exist to prove things like the Atlanteans' crystal technology, their ability to travel through time and space, etc.. Since the author is a researcher he doesn't claim that scientific evidence exists where none does exist. But I don't see where he tries to disprove these fantastic but possibly true theories either.

This book discusses the Atlantis that Plato spoke of but by then Atlantis was much like the other races that existed around 1200 BC. This was a much different Atlantis than the one Cayce spoke of with its crystal technology, death rays, genetically engineered 'things', etc.. The islands of Atlantis sank over a period of thousands of years, not all at once if I understand the legends correctly.

I believe that proof of Atlantean technology does exist. It's been sitting on the Giza plateau for thousands of years. It's called 'the great pyramid'. In his book The Giza Power Plant Christopher Dunn proves that the great pyramid was a form of nuclear reactor. Dunn's book proves that the great pyramid was built by people who had god like powers and knowledge of time and space. It was Edgar Cayce in another incarnation as the high priest Ra Ta who built the great pyramid. The sacred geometry for building the great pyramid was given to Ra Ta by another god like being named Horus.

This idea is consistent with 'Edgar Cayce's Atlantis And Lemuria'. This book indicates that these god like beings from Atlantis and Lemuria became the mythical gods of later races such as the Incas and Myans. Those later races talk of 'gods' who came from the sea and taught them about new technologies, astronomy, etc.. Eventually most of this knowledge was lost as these civilizations de-volved to the point of like the Incas began the practice of human sacrifice.

There's a big part of the Atlantis story that's still enshrouded in mystery. All we have is a few statements from Cayce's psychic readings and a few archeological sites under water. You get glimpses of these mysterious topics when in the Cayce readings it refers to things like 'visitations of those from the outer spheres'. This would seem to imply that Atlantis was being visited by beings from other planets, other dimensions, etc..

This book offers a comparison between what happened to Atlantis and our modern world. Atlantis was destroyed by the greed of individuals. For them this was catastrophic because their greed could be transformed into energy by the terrible crystals.

The final paragraph of this book is:

"Everyone senses a crossroads just ahead. When we reach it, which example will we follow - Lemuria or Atlantis."

I would answer with a quote from a book called 'UFO Contact From Planet Iarga' which was supposedly communicated to someone by people from another planet called Iarga. The Iargans stated:

"The human race lives for the present since it really has no future."

The Iargans may mean that our human race doesn't have a long term future. Even if we last for another thousand years that's a relatively short time in relation to the universe.

I think most people would agree that many industries have a relatively short term view of using the earth's resources. Maybe somehow everyone knows that what the Iargans said is true.

The Iargans also said that sometimes when people see flying saucers those are our ancestors from Atlantis travelling through time to see us.

Laws of Success and Reduced Stress

This book is a guide on how to accept fate and let go of events and people in our lives that we don't have any control over. Chopra says after we've done our best to prepare for success, let go of the final outcome. If our plans don't work the way we want, let it go. He says accept fate and let fate serve as a guide to the direction we need to be taking in the future. Chopra does not say good things will come if you just sit on the couch, but he talks about disappointments, successes, achievements, and failures. He says don't trying to force our will on events or people in our lives. If you worry a lot about the future, this book can be a stress-reliever. I purchased this book with my own funds and have not received any discount in exchange for my honest review. The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success

Object -referral we are constantly seeking the approval of others. Our thinking and our behavior are always in anticipation of a response. It is therefore fear-based. In object-referral we also feel an intense need to control things.

When we experience the power of the self, there is an absence of fear; there is no compulsion to control, and no struggle for approval or external power.

Through silence, through meditation, and through non-judgment, you will access the first law, the Law of Pure Potentiality. Once you start doing that, you can add a fourth component to this practice, and that is regularly spending time in direct communion with nature. You can start with; I won't judge anything, for the next hour, I will experience non-judgment. Then you can extend it gradually.

The true essence is beyond the ego. It is fearless: it is free: it is immune to criticism; it does not fear any challenge. It is beneath no one, superior to no one.

When you are grounded in the knowledge of your true Self; when you really understand your true nature; you will never feel guilty, fearful or insecure about money, or affluence, or fulfilling your desires, because you will realize that the essence of all material wealth is life energy, it is pure potentiality.

The more you give, the more you will receive. If, through the act of giving, you feel you have lost something, then the gift is not truly given and will not cause increase. If you give grudgingly, there is no energy behind that giving.

It is the intention behind your giving and receiving that is the most important thing. The intention should always be to create happiness for the giver and receiver, because happiness is life-sustaining and therefore generates increase. The return is directly proportional to the giving when it is unconditional and from the heart.

Practicing the Law of Giving is actually very simple: if you want joy, give joy to others; if you want love, learn to give love; if you want attention. Learn to give attention etc....

The heart is intuitive; it's holistic, it's contextual, it's relational. It doesn't have a win-lose orientation. It taps into the cosmic computer; the field of pure potentiality, pure knowledge, and infinite organizing power; and takes everything into account. At times it may not even seem rational, but the heart has a computing ability that is far more accurate and far more precise than anything within the limits of rational thought.

You must first become consciously aware that your future is generated by the choices you are making in every moment of your life.

When you feel frustrated or upset by a person or a situation, remember that you are not reacting to the person or the situation, but to your feelings about the person or the situation. These are your feelings, and your feelings are not someone else's fault.

All problems contain the seeds of opportunity and this awareness allows you to take the moment and transform it to a better situation or thing.

Any time you encounter resistance, recognize that if you force the situation, the resistance will once increase. You don't want to stand rigid like a tall oak that cracks and collapses in the storm. Instead you want to be flexible, like a reed that bends with the storm and survives.

Attention energizes, and intention transforms. Whatever you put your attention on will grow stronger in your life. Whatever you take your attention away from will wither, disintegrate, and disappear. Intention, on the other hand, triggers transformation of energy and information. Intention organizes its own fulfillment.

Intention is the real power behind desire. Intent alone is very powerful, because intent is desire without attachment to the outcome. Desire alone is weak, because desire in most people is attention with attachment.

The past, present, and future are all properties of consciousness. The past is recollection, memory; the future is anticipation; the present is awareness. Therefore time is the movement of thought. Both past and future are born in the imagination; only the present, which is awareness, is real eternal.

If you have life-centered, present-moment awareness, then the imaginary obstacles; which are more then ninety percent of perceived obstacles; disintegrate and disappear. The remaining five to ten percent of perceived obstacles can be transmuted into opportunities through one-pointed intention.

One-pointed intention means holding your attention to the intended outcome with such unbending purpose that you absolutely refuse to allow obstacles to consume and dissipate the focused quality of your attention.

Learn to harness the power of intention, and you can create anything you desire.

Everyone has a purpose in life... a unique gift or special talent to give to others. And when we blend this unique talent with service to others, we experience the ecstasy and exultation of our own spirit, which is the ultimate goal of all goals.

While meditation is the most useful way of entering the domain of spirit, simply shifting your internal dialogue to "How can I help?" will also access the spirit, that domain of your awareness where you experience your universality.

Ask yourself, if money was no concern and you had all the time and money in the world, what would you do? If you would still do what you currently do, then you are in dharma, because you have passion for what you do; you are expressing your unique talents.
