Can you ever really know someone's true intentions? In THE FLING, 22-year-old recent nursing graduate Amy is headed to Greece -- much to her parents' chagrin. They want to keep her home in Arizona where they can keep an eye on her. Amy wants adventure, though, and quickly falls for her gorgeous Greek professor, Dimitri. When Amy finds out that her Greek god is married, and meets his beautiful wife, Lydia, she is torn between her attraction and respect for their marriage. Then when Lydia makes Amy an offer she can't refuse, she struggles with the possibility that if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Despite her concerns, eventually she gives in to Lydia's encouragement, and Amy and Dimitri's passionate affair is everything Amy has ever dreamed of. What starts out as a breezy summer fling, however, becomes a struggle for happily ever after when the lovers are faced with the ultimate betrayal. They must learn to trust again in order for their love to survive, but is it too much to ask? **This book is intended for mature audiences.**

Great debut novel!
By Jocelyn
I was interested in this book since I read the blurb. I love reading about Greece and connected with the main character when I found out she loved Greece as well. The plot was unique and interesting and I can honestly say I didn’t see the huge twist in the story until it was revealed. It was a surprising twist, I must say, and I think everyone will love it!

Amy Presgraves has always dreamed of visiting Greece and her dream is finally coming true. Better than that? She gets to visit Greece in a study-abroad program that will further her academic career. She’s things can’t get better, until she meets her Professor Dr. Dimitri Speros—who also happens to be married. Oddly though, it’s Lydia, Dimitri’s wife that encourages her to get closer to the handsome Dimitri and when she does, she’s shocked and thrilled by the passion she shares with the Professor.

But what happens in Greece doesn’t always stay in Greece. Dimitri and Amy will face betrayal that will test all their boundaries. Can they make it through them together? Or was the summer fling doomed from the start?

I really enjoyed the beginning of the novel. It was a bit slow at first, and I felt at times that Amy was second best in Dimitri's eyes, but I liked learning about Amy and seeing her chemistry with Dimitri when she emailed him and when she met him. You can't deny their chemistry. I even liked the minor characters, which shocks me because of what one of them did. I should hate that person, but I don’t. Well, maybe a bit but I guess that’s what I like about this story. I experienced so many different emotions reading this book and I never knew what was going to happen next! I love suspense in books, especially when I find out the huge twist and never saw it coming.

A fantastic debut novel and I recommend it to everyone!

Studying Abroad has its Perks
By GC MacQuarie
This novel has a hell of a lot of promise, and provides the reader with the one important element of erotica: Lust.

Amy is a young nursing student nearing graduation who takes up an opportunity to attend a seminar in Greece. Bored with her day to day life, she jumps at the opportunity of adventure and falls for the professor running the seminar, Dimitrios, a married man. Dimitrios' wife gives her blessing that Amy pursue her feelings and the two embark on an affair.

All the right elements are there, however I did feel that it all just happened too easily for Amy. That said, the story really picks up at the halfway point, complete with a dramatic climax. Although I did pick up hints of what was happening, I still enjoyed the outcome of the story, and honestly, it turned out darker than expected. That was a nice twist.

Amy's relationship with Dimitrios is sweet and hot all at once. The two exude love and commitment from the very beginning which will have you pining for them until the very end.

Written in almost a novella style, The Fling is a quick and enjoyable read. In fact, I could see it adapted into a longer length novel, with more time spent on the building tension between Dimitrios and Amy, and even more on the beautiful backdrop of Greece.

Lawson has provided a story of real love at first sight, and hooked us in with a dark twist.

I'll be first in line to see what she comes up with next.

Couldn't put it down..........great story!!
By disneytothemax
I could not put this book down, I wanted to read it all in one sitting!! I've never read a book by Elle J. Lawson before and I was quite pleased!! It started out with Amy being a student and bored with her current job/life. Her friend sees an opportunity post on a board at work to go study abroad for a week in Greece, which is where Amy has always wanted to go. She applies and gets the chance to go. She meets hunky, Dr. Speros and his wife Lydia when they pick her up at the airport. They are very welcoming to her and I just kept waiting for the bomb to drop, it just seemed "off" to me. Most of what I guessed was correct but, WOW, didn't see part of it coming!! This is a must read book!! No cliffhanger, YAY!

HELICOBACTER PYLORI VANQUISHED : All-natural three-pronged strategy for exterminating H.pylori (More details added!), by Oliver McPherson

This ebook is for you, if :
• You are looking for a safe, powerful, all-natural, and affordable treatment for H.pylori, as an alternative to the conventional triple therapy consisting of a PPI plus two antibiotics
• You wish to learn more about H.pylori
• You want to avoid the trouble of sifting the internet searching for a natural way to eradicate H.pylori
• You are fed up of taking antibiotics to heal H.pylori

This ebook has been written so that the reader may know that they have the option of an all-natural, highly effective and affordable treatment. The treatment not only heals but also provides rather quick relief from the distressing symptoms of an H.pylori infection.
It is the product of an intensive research carried out by the author after he was struck by H.pylori. Like many others, he was skeptical about the potency and effectiveness of an all-natural treatment, and therefore opted for the conventional triple therapy which consisted of two antibiotics and a proton pump inhibitor. However after getting partial relief for few months, the infection recurred. This prompted the author to carry out an intensive research to find a holistic, all-natural treatment for H.pylori—a treatment that was safe, effective and affordable. The research lasted several months and consisted of studying books, sifting the internet, interviewing doctors, and examining testimonies of patients who were actually healed through natural treatment.
This work then is the product of that research, and all the good stuff gleaned by the author (from his research), lies captured in the form of this ebook.
The research of the author bore sweet fruit and made possible the evolution of the three-pronged strategy, wherein certain foods need to be avoided (until the infection is eradicated) while some other foods (which are beneficial) should be diligently consumed. Finally the strategy encourages use of specially selected all-natural, affordable food supplements (available at stores close to your house) which are safe, time-tested and have proved to be exceedingly effective against the H.pylori bacterium.
The success and potency of the three-pronged strategy motivated the author to share the information with those who are suffering from H.pylori and looking for a complete healing from this dreadful bacterium.
The author sincerely desires to share his work with as many H.pylori sufferers as possible, that they too may find relief and healing from this menace. Hence the ebook has been intentionally priced low.
The all-natural supplements mentioned in the book are the ones the author found most effective in the treatment of H.pylori (in his research) - a research, which revealed what really works.
Don't just fight H.pylori...BEAT it! For it IS beatable.

Save your time , Buy it
By Navin L
Had I stumbled upon this book earlier, I would have saved all my time wasted on internet searching for abundant but conflicting information on killing this bug. This book is straight to the point, it's short and it tells you what to do right away. Moreover it's proven to work because author himself has gone through it. I was enlightened with what natural herbs, food and supplement to include to kill this vicious and elusive bug. As author has stated it may take months for one to feel better, but I already declared war against this nasty critter, everyday I'll weaken it and eventually eradicate in the course. Hopefully the light at the end of the tunnel shouldn't be far.

Although, few questions surfaced to which author tactfully answered(Thanks a lot for replying to my mail):

Me: You've written to starve this bug, one way is to avoid sugar of all type, and then on some pages, you went on saying to eat lot of fruits like strawberries, melons, pineapple etc. Strawberries I think are very sugary at least thats what my taste buds feels. What's the difference between fruit based sugar and refined sugar? Did you mean fruit based sugar is not consumed by that bug? That is a huge confusion for me.

Mr. Oliver McPherson: Naturally occurring sugar in fruits is much different than the processed sugar which we buy at the stores which is really SUCROSE. It is sucrose (which my research revealed should be avoided), not fruits and veggies which apart from glucose and fructose also possess a bunch of vitamins, minerals and anti oxidants which can bolster the immune system which in turn produces killer T cells which suppress/ kill HP bug. So when I wrote avoid sugars what I essentially meant was avoid processed sugar.

Me: In some pages, you've written to avoid spicy, fried, fatty foods and then on some other pages, you are urging folks to consume coconut oil. Coconut oil still has some sort of fat, and as per your written words it has some substance that kills bacteria, but still, did you mean coconut fat is okay to consume despite the infection?

Mr. Oliver McPherson: Spicy food and fatty food have a propensity to stimulate acid which in turn is HIGHLY conducive to the growth of HP bug( think why every conventional antibiotic therapy has a PPI like omeprazole? because the HP is found to weaken in non-acidic body)
Coconut oil in my research revealed had a toxic action against HP bug, and one of the chief reasons being Monolaurin which is toxic for the bug> minimum of 50 ml of coconut oil would contain 20 to 25 grams of lauric acid, which indicates that the oil is metabolized in the body to release monolaurin . So it could be used in suppressing the bug).

Me: Your book has something about boycotting dairy products as these bacteria thrives on it? And then you are urging folks to eat kefir which I think is dairy product in itself?

Mr. Oliver McPherson: Milk has been found ( in my research) not helpful but indeed Kefir has been found to be helpful because it contains a plethora of probiotics which are natural enemies of H P bug.

With those 3 questions in my mind, I was literally confused until Mr. Oliver McPherson cleared everything. His reply was very informative and assuring. He's very generous, kind enough and out there to help folks. In this day and age, there are very few good-intentioned people left, Mr Oliver is one of 'em. I'm not trying to reveal much of his books content here but some things that I thought must have left others wondered as well. I am hoping this review of mine will equally be meaningful after they read through the book.

Highly Recommended.

Amazon, stop letting scammers plagerize books!
By Angela White
Come on, Amazon!
Here's what's wrong with this... book?
1-Everything is copy/pasted from internet sites. Nothing is original. I believe that's called plagiarism.
2-You can tell it was copy/pasted even without going to the net to verify that, because the formatting stinks. Missing words, missing capitals, and huge gaps in the text.
3-The information is wrong, especially the parts about acidic environments. It's exactly opposite of what the author states.
4-Hard to read. All capital words, italics, bold print-all in the same paragraph. Made my eyes strain. Also, it is red, yellow, and white text on a black background, with font that changes size in places. Honestly, it was a bit of a headache just to get to the end.
5-Too short. That's what happens when you copy other people's work. You have nothing to say on your own and the pages don't flow.
6-Has a barrage of links to buy the mention products, and I suspect they are affiliate links. For those of you who don't know what that is, basically, they make a commission if you buy a product through that link.
7-It is a sales ad. There's no true information. It's roughly 100 pages of ads, testimonials, and copied articles from across the web.
8-No organization. You think you're getting a plan, but at the end, you get a badly formatted chart and a summary paragraph-both of which are hard to read. Especially the summary that again had bold, all caps, and italics in the same sentences.
I could go on with the issues, but I won't. What I will say, is this:
Dear Amazon,
You have a responsibility to your customers to make sure that books are not full of plagiarized material. Please revamp your approval process. If you continue to allow this type of bad behavior, you will no longer be the place where everyone gets their books. You will be covered in slimy salesmen and the rest of us will avoid you like a disease.
When you first came on the scene, you had good prices and good customer service. A person could depend on a product bought through Amazon. Sadly, that is no longer the case. You raise prices to cover the Prime, you allow anyone to publish without a real person reviewing the material, 2-day shipping is a joke(lucky if it's 4 days) and your employees are as rude and not the least bit interested in actually pleasing people. You may think you're one of those who is too big to fail, but it's simply not true.

Worthwhile book with sound information
By Richard J. Higgins
I bought this book when experiencing several GI symptoms, with the worst being acid reflux. My Dr. suspected it might be caused by HP bacteria, so I was tested for that. While waiting for my Dr appointment and test results, I read this book, which also lined up quite well with the Dr.'s protocol. I was so miserable that I decided to just go ahead and implement some of the protocol, which I did. I started the Maneuca Honey, dietary suggestions, probiotics, DGL . I saw some improvement, but not complete relief. I added in Mastic Gum and limonene And after a couple weeks or so I began to realize how much better I felt! So I'm still not sure exactly what the problem was, because the HP bacteria test came back normal. Perhaps a different bacteria? I think Oliver McPherson has written an excellent protocol in his book for HP which also may overlap into helping many digestive disorders. Through email correspondence with Mr. McPherson, I have come to believe that he has compassion on those who suffered as he did and wants to share how he found relief without using such high powered medications, which come with their own disadvantages. Thank you for sharing what you have learned, Mr. Mc Pherson! I highly recommend this book and am so grateful to be feeling much, much better!

Magee has taught philosophy at Oxford, and in each of these volumes he attempts to make philosophy understandable to the lay reader. The DK book devotes just a few pages to each of the major thinkers and is lavishly illustrated. It would be suitable for high school, college, and public libraries. Great Philosophers is a series of conversations with important contemporary philosophers about the major historical figures, originally produced for the BBC. Confessions is an autobiographical excursion through Western philosophy.

Great Philosophers . . . Great Fun!
By Parker Benchley
The basis of this wonderful book is a series of television programs first telecast by the BBC in 1987. However, while most would have stopped there and merely published the book as a transcript of the shows, Magee takes it one, two, and even three steps farther. As editor, he reworked the transcripts and even brought back his contributors for further revisions and improvements. The result is a delightful book that easily exceeds one's expectations, and mine were not so high given the fact the book is a series of conversations with academics about a particular philosopher or school of philosophy. In the wrong hands, this can be certain death by boredom. But in the right hands . . .
Can academics keep our interest while discussing philosophy? They can easily do so when: (1) they are allowed to rework and improve their material; and (2) when they are talking with Bryan Magee. Magee is no mere interviewer; he prods, interjects, disagrees, and yet allows his subject to shine when conversing about their subject. This is no mean feat; it takes a delicate skill to pull this off and still keep it entertaining. And this is exactly what Magee does. Whether he's asking Anthony Kenny his opinion on why so many great medieval philosophers come from The British Isles, asking Anthony Quinton to more exactly define Leibniz's Monad, debating Schopenhauer's philosophy with Frederick Copleston, or just sitting back and allowing Geoffrey Warnock to explain Kant's mataphysics, Magee keeps his readers not only entertained, but delightfully informed.
The highlights of the book are Passmore's explanation of Hume, Magee's defense of Schopenhauer during his conversation with Copleston (was included because he penned book, albeit hostile, about Schopenhauer), Warnock's easy explation of Kant's sometimes difficult metaphysics, Hubert Dreyfus on Husserl and Heidegger, and John Searle explaing the wonder that is Wittgenstein. Quite a lot of highlights for such a book, but as I said before, this is no ordinary book.
One final word: Magee is often described as a popularizer, a word that is often used disparingly, as in "He's not an expert, he's just a popularizer." Nonsense. A popularizer is at root a teacher, and to be a popularizer, one must really have a firm grasp of the subject matter. There are good popularizers and bad popularizers. Magee is among the very best. He not only knows his subject matter, but has the unique talent of making the experts not only entertaining, but also amazingly lucid.
This book is a bargain at any price.

A great popularizer without apologies
By Adrian Walker
For many years in Britain Bryan Magee has been a popularizer of philosophy-and unashamedly so. In his view philosophy is too important and relevant a subject to be left to academics. There are few who can elucidate and demystify as capably. Accordingly, when you have Magee interviewing famous philosphers about very famous philosophers you have the ingredients of an exciting recipe-and the product is not disappointing. There is Bernard Williams on Descartes, Geoffrey Warnock on Kant and J P Stern on Nietzche-all outstanding. Beyond this though there is Dreyfus on Heidigger- a remarkable insight into a difficult philosopher and John Searles cool exposition of Wittgenstein. However, the very best is Coppelston and Magee on Schopenhaeur. Here Magee departs from his role as lucid interrogator and engages with the expert, often disagreeing. This is (as he explains) because Schopenhauer has been the subject of one of his own books. All of this makes for a lively exchange which led this reader to research further. While he popularizes Magee never cheapens. You should not expect this to survey all the thoughts of any one writer, but rather to stimulate your interest to read some great minds yourself. If this does so for any thinker the the author will have served his purpose.

Great Introduction to the History of Philosophy
By ctdreyer
I know of no better introduction to the history of philosophy than this volume, which is about as engaging as books on philosophy get. The conversations are easy to follow; no knowledge of arcane terminology is presupposed; and every attempt is made to bring out why these ideas are important and worthy of serious study today. Furthermore, the book's coverage is quite broad for its length of three hundred pages. It manages to cover philosophy from Plato to Wittgenstein, and I can't think of a single absolutely essential figure in the history of philosophy whose work isn't discussed here. Nevertheless, this book is less ambitious than many other shorter books on the history of philosophy in that it doesn't attempt to cover the entire history of philosophy. Instead, Magee and his interlocutors focus in on the most important figures in the history of philosophy and devote an entire chapter to each of them. Where historical trends in philosophy or other, less important figures are mentioned, they're mentioned in relation to the figures to whom the particular chapters are devoted. This strikes me as a significant strength of this book as a book for someone coming to philosophy for the first time. A beginner needs to know about Plato, Descartes, Hume, Kant, et al.; she doesn't need to know a little bit about every figure who has introduced an important idea or two. Finally, most of the interviews are with thinkers who are themselves good philosophers, and, in several cases (e.g., Bernard Williams on Descartes, Miles Burnyeat on Plato, Michael Ayers on Locke, and Hubert Dreyfus on Heidegger), the interviewee has done first-rate work on the very philosopher(s) he or she is discussing.
Each interview begins with a short biographical sketch of the subject by Brian Magee, and some attempt is made, in these introductions and in the interviews, to place each figure's ideas into the history of philosophy and into the history of ideas more generally. Still, there is no general format for these discussions. Some of the interviews begin with a sketch of the thinker's methodology or conception of philosophy; some begin with an account of one of the thinker's distinctive views that provides an entry into his thinking; some begin with a discussion of a problem to which the thinker was responding. From these beginnings, the conversation tends to develop and cover more of the thinker's views, with the dialogue format keeping things fairly informal without being superficial.
It's not that this book makes all of these things easy to understand. Some of them just aren't easy to understand, and there is no way to accurately describe their views while making those views easy to understand. And, in some cases, the difficulty of their views isn't simply a matter of unnecessary pedantry or willful obscurity on their part--though, in other cases, it may be partly a matter of these things. In fact, some of these figures (i.e., Kant, Hegel, Heidegger, and Wittgenstein) are notorious for the difficulty of their work. But, even in these cases, the conversations here go some way in helping to introduce their thought.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants an entry into the study of the history of the philosophy. In addition, if you simply memorize most of the information in this volume, you'll know enough to understand just about any reference to a famous philosopher and his ideas that you find outside of a philosophy classroom or journal. In other words, you'll look smarter if you read this book. Heck, reading this book might even make you smarter. What more can you ask for?

Molecular Biology: Principles of Genome Function, by Nancy Craig, Orna Cohen-Fix, Rachel Green, Carol Greider, Gisela Storz, Cynthia Wolbe

Molecular Biology: Principles of Genome Function offers a fresh, distinctive approach to teaching one of today's most fascinating scientific subjects. Its perspective reflects the challenge of teaching a subject that is in many ways unrecognizable from the molecular biology of the 20th century--a discipline in which our understanding has advanced immeasurably, but about which many intriguing questions remain.

FEATURES:

* A focus on underlying principles--rather than an attempt to offer exhaustive detail--equips students with a robust conceptual framework to which they can add further details from the vast amount of scientific information available today.

* An emphasis on the commonalities that exist between bacteria, archae, and eukaryotes--along with coverage of their differences--provides an accurate depiction of our current understanding of the conserved nature of molecular biology and the variations that underpin biological diversity.

* An integration of key themes and concepts demonstrates how molecular phenomena like chromatin modification and RNA silencing have diverse impacts on genome function. It also helps students to appreciate molecular biology as a unified discipline, with many components and phenomena acting in concert.

* Clear demonstrations of the experimental basis of molecular biology (set off in the text in "Experimental Approach" panels) reflect the central importance of experimental evidence to furthering our understanding of molecular biology. These panels describe pieces of research that have been particularly valuable in elucidating different aspects of the discipline.

* Pedagogical features including full-color, custom-drawn artwork; end-of-chapter summaries; suggested readings grouped by topic; and an extensive glossary of key terms further enhance the text.

* An extensive Companion Website features additional materials for both instructors and students. For adopters of the text: figures from the book, available to download for use in lectures, and "Journal Club," suggested research papers and discussion questions linked to topics featured in the book. For students and instructors: "New and noteworthy"--key highlights from the field, updated for the start of each semester--and a library of three-dimensional models of key molecular structures featured in the book.

Review
"Concise and current. A great text for undergraduates." --Steve Wright, Carson Newman College

"Provides a current, comprehensive, and balanced approach on the topic of molecular biology. The organization of the topics, artwork, and presentation of the material are all very well done. The organization of the chapters allows the instructor to present the material at various levels of detail suitable to the background of the students." --Rey Sia, Brockport College

"Clearly summarizes the core information of contemporary molecular biology. Explanations are clear and straightforward, nicely balancing prokaryotic and eukaryotic material. The explosion of genomic information could overwhelm any student (or author), but the authors build a coherent framework for understanding molecular biology with its consistent focus on the regulation of gene expression, providing a unifying theme for the book." --Chris Cole, Morris University

"An engaging textbook that is both thorough and interesting; a rare thing today with textbooks that read like encyclopedias and dictionaries." --Doug Burks, Wilmington University

About the Author
Nancy L Craig received an AB in Biology and Chemistry in 1973 from Bryn Mawr College, Pennsylvania. She received her PhD in Biochemistry in 1980 at Cornell University, where she worked on the role of RecA function in the lysogenic induction of bacteriophage lambda. During postdoctoral work at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, from 1980-1984, she studied the mechanism of bacteriophage lambda site-specific recombination. In 1984, she joined the faculty at the University of California San Francisco and began her studies of the transposition of the bacterial transposon Tn7. She spent a sabbatical in 1989-1990 with Allan Spradling at the Carnegie Institution of Embryology studying P element transposition in Drosophila. In 1991, she moved to The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, where she is a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator and a Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, and continues her studies on Tn7 transposition. Orna Cohen-Fix graduated from the Tel Aviv University, Israel in 1987 and received a PhD in biochemistry with Zvi Livneh at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel, in 1994. Biology Student's Perspective: It's an okay textbook that gets the job done.
By APreMedStudent
Like the previous reviewers have written, this textbook is great because it is very informative and current, and it contains many figures for each chapter to summarize key concepts. Each chapter has main headings and several subheadings per each section that provide mini summaries for what concepts the following paragraphs will address, and this makes the textbook very easy to navigate through. The "Experimental Approach" sections are a great addition in that they provide information on recent investigations in the laboratory environment that pertain to the concepts discussed in the chapter.

That being said, this textbook does not earn a 5 star rating in my opinion because there are a number of typos and factual errors in some of the chapters. My professor occasionally must inform our class to make changes in the textbook for errors that are more than just typos. For example, in one chapter, it was talking about two genes in chromosome 11 and the descriptions of their functions were reversed. This kind of error is a little bothersome because it suggests that the editors were not knowledgeable enough on the concepts to catch the error.

The biology course that used this book was a nightmare in terms of workload. We had to read about 100 pages of dense text per week. So if you are buying this book for a weed out class, you are going to hate this book. But in fairness, if I liked reading dense scientific books for fun, this book is content packed and explains concepts in extreme depth. Good luck!

Bought this for college
By AnnaJangle
I used this for my introductory biology courses at Duke: Intro to Molecular Biology.

This book was beyond helpful with the material. The authors did a great job with being clear and explained everything extremely well. Some chapters may have been a little more verbose than necessary, but all in all one of the better textbooks I've ever used.
