I cannot wait for this book to come out!

1O/11/97 E-mail (Eugene IV) I wish and hope to see more works by the author Montague Summers. His books are quite rare, and are great to read. I'm delighted to see this work being published again by the famed Montague Summers and his book "The Were Wolf". A thrilling and rather frighful account of a series of events that took place during the 15th and 18th centuries. Father Montague 188O/1948 an English Priest of the Catholic Church goes into depth about the heart chilling details of "The Were Wolf". How the Were Wolf is not just folk lore, but part of the belief of the Catholic Church, that condemned such monster's attributing there existence to the devil or satan "The Father of Lies" Gospel of (John:8 44). Filled with wisdom and historical accounts the priest gives his thoughts on the mind of the Catholic Church during that time, and her practice of burning such for there wickedness. A great book for them that doubt or deny the existence of "The Were Wolf".

Sequel falls a little flat

I liked "The Devil's Grin" very much and recommended it to friends, so seeing this next volume excited me a bit, but it was a bit of a letdown for me. It's well written (Wendberg has a nice style) and there are good touches throughout - at times the book comes to life but most of the book (I hate to use this term) comes off like Chick Lit - pages that could be summarized as "I hate him / i love him / what must i do?"

Overall it was a fair read and began and ended well, good enough for me to anticipate the next book. Unlike "The Devil's grin" I don't think I'll be rereading this one.

Don't mess with Anna

Bubonic plague unleashed upon turn-of-the-century Europe will be the outcome if Dr. Anna Kronberg is unsuccessful in convincing a madman to reconsider his plans. The villain in question: Professor James Moriarty, better known as nemesis to Sherlock Holmes.

Dr. Kronberg is a worthwhile adversary, but she must help Moriarty; otherwise her dear father, held hostage against her good behavior, will pay the price. Regardless, she is determined to save the world despite working under close surveillance and detention.

Rich details of period life and the cutting edge descriptions of the new science of bacteriology draw the reader into a world that could have been. Anna is a heroine for all time. This is the second novel in a series, and every bit as enjoyable as the first.

Very Disappointing

The book is a rambling piece of work with very little to keep the reader interested. I kept waiting for things to happen, but instead we are treated repeatedly to Anna's musing, her disconnected plans that seemed improbable and underuse of Holmes character. The Professor seems uncertain and somewhat needy. How disappointing.

Spoiler Alert!!
Anna is taken prisoner in the Professor's home and is being forced to develop biological weapons of mass destruction. Anna and the Professor develop an uneasy and untrusting relationship which, strange enough, turns sexual, consensually. I imagine that their sexual relationship is intended to show her calculating nature. But it just feels weak and nasty. The story line was better when he was using and discarding his sex slaves. Actually that would have made an interesting side story/mystery in of itself.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend this book. It was a disappointing sequel to the Devil's Grin. Not a good use of time.

Not bad for the price.

The book is more a glossary than a handbook. The author's 70 topics are touched on very superficially with just enough of an introduction to make the reader want to learn more about them - by consulting other resources. Many of the topics in this book are covered more adequately in Nancy Tague's The Quality Toolbox, but the ones that Tague doesn't cover are nicely introduced here. There is definitely value in this book, but I think I would have sent it back if it had cost much more than it did. If you haven't had any other introduction to quality or business management tools, this could be a good start. Or, find a copy of the table of contents and do a google search to learn just as much, if not more. If you're a serious practitioner or student of the subject, pay the price for something meatier like Tague or Breyfogle.

Neil Tyson takes over for Carl Sagan IMO by making complex subjects simple and interesting

This is my first book by Neil Tyson and I was elated to find his writing style similar to Carl Sagan's. Of course it's a little different than Carl's because they are different people - but the main point is that Neil does the same fantastic job that Carl Sagan did in making complex subjects refreshingly simple but fascinating.

...A big part of this is providing (often ingenious) examples for every point that the 'average layman' might need in order to make the text crystal clear and interesting to read.

Neil Tyson's "Origins" - just like most of Carl Sagan's books - I devoured as fast as I could. It gave me but another viewpoint of an obviously gifted astrophysicist and writer's view of the evolution of the cosmos.

Neil deGrasse Tyson, heir apparent to Carl Sagan's Cosmos, is a gifted storyteller. His account of the origins of the Universe & everything in it makes for enjoyable reading. He has a knack for making an easy explanation of the Universe's myriad of mysteries, including the Big Bang, how stars, galaxies, & planets form, & also how the search for exoplanets is conducted. Tyson reminds me so much of Sagan, whose work I've also enjoyed - his friendly manner, ability to captivate his audience, a distinct speaking style, & a clever wit. Oh, & handsome too!

Invaluable and exhaustive

A very good book. I know those who think evolution and astrophysics is nonsense will not like a book like this, but I think most Amazon buyers are well enough educated to understand the difference between religious myth and science. Tyson explains the science (I am a geologist) in a way that is readily understandable and easy to follow. Astrophysics is a tough subject, but he explains it well.

It is really needed that we know how to pleasure our mind especially when if we are always feel stressed to our work and other things. And it is definitely true that negative thinking is one of the most toxic elements that can hinder us from making positive steps in our life. This was a pretty extensive box set on the mind. They rang from self-hypnosis to controlling your emotions. I’ve never had a box set this extensive box it’s basically all in one kind of thing. I don’t really need to get another book on these subject for a while. Out of all these books my favorite was on mind mapping lots of cool tricks to helping you focus your mind on to what you want. This box set of books was pretty interesting. I was looking for some ways to "hack" my brain and be in a better state mentally, and this book really helped me learn how to do that. It provides different techniques on how to pleasure your mind, how to control negative emotions, self hypnosis, and more. It's probably worth reading if you're into this stuff like I am!
